Borderlands: Could Austin-San Antonio regoin be the next Freight Alley?...
The 80-mile stretch between Austin and San Antonio — two of Texas’ biggest cities — continues to be a hot commodity for new factories, distribution centers and logistics facilities.
Economic development officials have dubbed the area along Interstate 35 the Texas Innovation Corridor.
“There are approximately 250 supply chain-related businesses in the Texas Innovation Corridor, the largest of which are Amazon, H-E-B Distribution Center, UPS and Berry Aviation,” Jason Giulietti, president of the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), told FreightWaves.
The GSMP is an economic development organization that covers most of central Texas.
Convoy opens up a digital freight network to truckload brokerages...
Digital freight network Convoy is offering freight brokers direct access to its network of more than 300,000 trucks operated by small carriers and owner-operators. Convoy for Brokers, which rolled out on Nov. 18, gives brokerages leads and visibility on capacity across its network. Convoy said its carrier compliance program also ensures brokers’ loads are delivered safely and on time.
Cargo theft likely to spike over the next seven days...
Analyzing data over the past five Thanksgiving holidays – from the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to the Monday – CargoNet discovered 137 recorded thefts (an average of 27 per year), and that Thanksgiving 2020 was the most active period in the analysis with 40 thefts recorded.
Cargo thieves targeted shipments of televisions, major appliances, mixed electronics and alcoholic beverages the most during the analysis period, pushing shipment value past $125,000.
